def.fo Unveils Futuristic Concept Album ‘Music for Dinosaurs’
def.fo doesn’t hang around. He finds himself in a constant state of creative forward movement, helplessly driven towards the light which music brings into our lives. A serial pusher of boundaries and a curious self-challenger, the process is both in him and of him. He needs it. We need it. And now.
His debut album, Eternity, released in December 2023, garnered no shortage of acclaim from the likes of Q, Shindig! Magazine (4/5*), God Is In the TV (9/10*), and Live4ever Media (8/10*). The album’s singles received airplay on BBC Music Introducing in Merseyside and earned spots on Amazing Radio’s core playlist.
Now, hot on the dusty boot heels of Eternity, def.fo is poised to take listeners on an exhilarating journey with his upcoming sophomore album, Music for Dinosaurs. This ambitious concept album teleports audiences up, up and away into a howling, dystopian nightmare set on Mars, where a troubled civilisation teeters on the sharpened edge of extinction. Time runs short, and in a desperate, breathless bid for survival, the inhabitants must embark on a daring interstellar quest, ultimately discovering a hope they can cling to on their bright new Eden, planet Earth.
Music for Dinosaurs highlights the rich eclecticism in def.fo’s sound and vision, his innate passion for the preternatural melding of genres, and the positive lyrical energy for which he’s surely becoming known. def.fo has created his own space and that’s where he exists. Where he needs to be. It’s a place where moody trip hop beats sweep underneath Laurel Canyon harmonies, a technicolour soundscape of blended moments. Sunshine and the night. Call it ‘Psychedelicfolkhop’ and you’d be pretty close.
Tom Powell, the man behind the artist persona of def.fo, takes time aside once more here, away briefly from the day job of playing bass for Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band, where they’ve enjoyed two recent Top 10 albums. Music for Dinosaurs is co-produced by def.fo and Steve Powell, (noted for his work with artists such as John Power (The La’s, Cast), The Stairs, and Michael Head (Shack, The Pale Fountains) to name but a few), and also features guest appearances by Gregory David Roberts, author of multi-million bestseller epic Shantaram. You’re in good company here, that much is clear. Join def.fo on his journey and be a part of it.
Music for Dinosaurs. Cancel the extinction.
